Facebook keeps profiles hidden from Googlebot and friends. Until today! Now GOOG will start crawling the millions of profiles which hopefully will give me more to look at when I google myself. Right? Wrong… All that FB will be showing now is listing of peoples names and networks.
… Not exactly a billion pages of quality user generated content for Google to add to the serps. It is not like people will be linking out to these pages to say ‘Hey come here and NOT see my profile’. So another 50 million useless pages indexed by Google, little to no value added for facebook, and zero value added for the end user. Big news indeed. And here I was all ready to go and generate 10000 profiles about my good friends “Billy Bonus Ringtones McGee” and “Johnny Debt Consolidation Smith”. If Facebook gave us the option of having our ENTIRE profile indexed much like we can opt to have people who are not our friends see it, then we’d have news.
Oh well, keep on keeping on.
