The loans are then repaid and used to grow new businesses and to expand existing ones. With small business loans, women and men are able to develop a steady income, provide for their families, and create jobs for their neighbors Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, the Marketing Director - Major Gifts Fundraising is responsible for private sector fundraising programs and activities in and around the New York, New York area. This includes interfacing with Board Members, donors, program staff and visitors from around the world.  The strategic thrust of Opportunity International's fundraising in Major Gifts. They have learned that the people who best respond to their message are people who can give in excess of $5000/year. Many of these donors are bankers, large business owners and entrepreneurs. The Marketing Director – Major Gifts Fundraiser needs to be established and living in the New York, New York area. Opportunity International will provide a list of existing prospects to this person, but will expect the Major Gifts Fundraiser to be diligent in networking and building the portfolio ideally from contacts in his/her personal network. DESIRED BACKGROUND AND STYLE Background The successful candidate will have a B.A. /B.S degree and demonstrate a verifiable track record in sales/marketing or fund-raising. A masters is a plus.  The Marketing – Major Gifts Team members operate from offices in their respective homes. By definition, isolation, autonomy and ambiguity are associated with this job. The successful Marketing – Major Gifts Director is very much a self-starter who can organize his/her day/week/month without having a traditional office or a local team with which to meet.  This person must be a follower of Christ. Denominational background is not as important as core beliefs about what it means to be a follower of Christ. This will be evidenced by the person's ability to affirm commitment to the vision, mission, purpose and community standards of Opportunity International as set forth in its relevant statements. This person must also have an understanding of the vital relationship between mission and money and be able to communicate this.       The successful candidate will be someone who is highly relational. S/he must be motivated to network socially, and have a call and passion for building relationships at the high end of the economic and social ladder.      This person needs to be a self starter who can work effectively from a home office environment. For those people who draw energy from being in an office of like minded people, this might not be a good fit. This needs to be someone who can get up each morning energized by the reality of making phone calls and having appointments to share the life changing mission of Opportunity International.      This person should be eager for the hunt. S/he will be motivated by the discovery of potential, naturally curious, always following up on leads and seeking the potential in a situation or prospective donor.      S/he must be able to find donors who have a strong interest in the various field projects and close the deal. This person will be comfortable asking for specific gifts. S/he must “get to yes†with the potential donor, thus moving potential donors to donors.      The successful candidate must be someone whom people will want to include in their social lives. S/he must be comfortable and fluid in one-on-one and small group settings with excellent communications skills.Â
There is a logistical element to successful fund-raising. The Marketing – Major Gifts Director must manage small to mid-size events as well as create, organize and lead vision trips abroad
